Later throughout the novel Josie shows that she has a lot of feelings for Jacob. Josie also tries opening up to her grandmother more as she lets her grandmother tell her stories about her past and Josie tries her best to pay attention.

Also Josie wants to find out more about her father but not too much because of what he did to her mother, but there was definitely stronger father-daughter relationship developing. There is another love twist after it looked like Josie was really into Jacob they have a fight and Josie starts to dislike him and grows feelings for John Barton again. We are shown that decisions are never fully made with Josie, as again she doubts her relationship with Jacob. Josie was supposed to be in school helping little kids with a Walk-O-Thon but instead she ditches and decides to hang out with her friends.

When Josie and Jacob have to see Macbeth for school. However Josie realizes that even though Jacob is more fun to be with, Josie and John have more in common.

She tries to remain very supportive but advises Josie to take things slow with Jacob and not make the same mistake she did. She found out that he killed himself. Both Ivy and Josie realized that they both cared for John and they both bonded and later realized that they have a lot in common. At the end Josie and Jacob break up but both later realize that these things happen and that they are better off separated.
